Delicious (and Spooky) Wine Pairings for Your Halloween Movie Night

Delicious (and Spooky) Wine Pairings for Your Halloween Movie Night

The leaves are changing, there are pumpkins at every grocery store, the air is crisp, it’s one of the best times of the year, Halloween! So grab your popcorn, turn your fireplace on, and pour yourself a glass of wine because it’s time to get toasty while we get spooky.

The wines that we’ve paired with some of our favorite Halloween movies will be perfect to help take the edge off when things go bump in the night.

Hocus Pocus

What wine could possibly go better with the movie centered around three witch sisters than Witching Hour Red Blend? “Hocus Pocus” follows the adventure of two teenagers, Max and Allison, and Max’s younger sister, Dani, who accidentally free three witches from the grave. With the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal. This wine has deep flavors of dark cherries and vanilla to complement the dark witches and sweet kids of this movie.

Beetlejuice

Silver Ghost Cabernet Sauvignon pairs excellently with this ghost-filled movie. A couple living in the country find themselves as ghosts trapped in their house and attempt to haunt the new people living in their home. Without success, they request help from Beetlejuice, but he turns out to be much more of a menace. This wine brings flavors and aromas of dried flowers, currants, blackberries, and violet...or should we say violent. This wine will help you stay calm and keep you from saying “Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!”

Halloween

We need a classic wine to go with the classic Halloween movie, “Halloween”! This film was first released in 1978 and has had 10 sequels and remakes to follow and revolves around Michael Myers who goes on a murdering spree after escaping from jail. A glass (or two) of Frank Family Carneros Pinot Noir is a classic and the perfect juxtaposition to this movie. It contains lively and fresh flavors for this un-lively movie.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

“The Nightmare Before Christmas'' tells the story of the infamous Jack Skellington, aka The Pumpkin King, and his adventure to find a new lease on life. This Josh Cellars Bourbon Barrel Cabernet is big and bold, just like Jack, with the fruit flavors of blackberry and boysenberry that are complemented by vanilla and cinnamon spice. Your taste buds will go on just as big of an adventure as Jack does, in the best way possible.

Scream

Pour a glass of this Drama Red Blend while watching the movie that changed the meaning of scary movies for generations to come. This movie is funny, clever, and scary as a masked killer stalks high school students in middle-class suburbia. And how fitting is the name of this wine with all the drama that happens in “Scream”? This medium-bodied wine is a Spanish blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha with hints of black raspberry, plum, and currant. Just be careful not to spill during the jump scares!
